Design has the ability to bridge the gap between home and wellness. Creating space to connect, escape and introduce new daily rituals are key to transforming this family’s unused outdoor area into an oasis in the city. Join us as this space is renewed and dressed with a curated collection of pieces that confidently reflects their personal style.
Inspiration
The Vibe
California's west coast, outdoor living serves as inspiration for the breezy atmosphere of this Philadelphia Brownstone’s outdoor oasis. Organic woods, bright whites, assorted palms and a minimalist approach contribute to the relaxed entertainment-ready environment.
Rich jewel-tones from the ocean introduce soulful colors that compliment the historic nature of this brownstone and Philadelphia location. Teals and greys paired with strategic use of graphic patterns will help to create balance for the lighter design elements.
Vintage, bronze finishes and warm lighting will add depth to the space. All elements come together to create an outdoor retreat with high visual impact while remaining family-friendly and low maintenance.
The Before
The design goal is to transform this unused space into an elevated yet kid-friendly outdoor retreat that incorporates hints of West Coast Living while honoring the historic Philadelphia neighborhood. The design will be low maintenance with high visual impact that will attract a future renter.
Reveal
The Design
This fresh design maximizes every square inch yet maintains both an intimate and airy vibe. A lush wall of palms with warm ambient up-lighting will create a visual impact as the space transitions from day to evening to night. Multifunctional zones enable the additional spaces to serve as a grilling station, kid zone and adult-friendly outdoor gaming area. Durable finishes with high style create a foundation of furniture and decor elements that can be paired with a diverse assortment of styling elements.
Evening – as the sun sets and the glow of the warm lighting rises, this outdoor space transforms into an intimate lounge reminiscent of a West Coast cabana. The walkup bar serves as a stunning focal to be adorned with cocktails, charcuterie boards and groupings of candles when entertaining. With a mini fridge and closed shelving, other items can be tucked away.
Printed and ocean, jewel-toned serving ware will add variation to the minimal color palette. The addition of textured throw pillows and blankets will add depth to the smooth finishes. Soulful tunes and a refreshing evening breeze turn this Philadelphia brownstone into a true oasis in the city.
